Signs of Life

Hello loyal readers (good one, huh?),

Here are the things I've been up to lately, now in convenient list form:

  • Studying for the California bar exam
  • Enjoying my newly-acquired Wii
  • Pretending to study for the California bar exam
  • Creating cartoonish digital versions of self and friends (called Miis) for use with Wii games
  • Despising California bar exam study
  • Playing some serious Mario Kart Wii (I'm the best, by the way)
  • Re-living three years of law school in a condensed, two month format in preparation for the California bar exam
  • Playing games up at Mandi and Mike's, eating their food and staying in their guest bedroom
  • Dreading the three consecutive six-hour days of examination that is the California bar exam
  • Riding the bike that I got from D.I. to and from campus (about 30% of the time)
  • Waaaaaallllleeeeeeee
  • Doing anything reasonably justifiable to avoid studying for the California bar exam
  • Letting hair grow the longest it's been since 1994
  • Anticipating watching the Dark Knight on IMAX on July 19 (It's just a rumor, but I hear they're introducing a new villain in this one whose butt is ripe for bat-kicking: the Bar Examiner!)

Ctrl + Alt + [left arrow]

Dutifully reviewing my outlines for the upcoming bar exam, I wished to highlight a certain portion of text that was practically begging to be painted yellow to ensure inculcation of a legal principle warranting careful scrutiny during future review. I recalled that there is a way to highlight text in Word without making my poor, weary mouse hike all the way up to the Quick Access Toolbar and click the Highlight icon for me: a "shortcut key" as they call 'em these days. I thought I had pressed Ctrl+Alt+H to highlight the text but, to my horror, my computer's display flipped 90 degrees counter-clockwise!

It turns out I had pressed Ctrl+Alt+← (I was using the left arrow to try and select the text I wanted to highlight). Try it! It'll blow your mind. But remember, press Ctrl+Alt+↑ [up arrow] to get your display back on the up and up, as it were.

cum laude

My final law school grades are in, and I must say I'm honored. No, really, I officially graduated with honors, or cum laude, for all you Latinophones out there. I got a 3.4 in professional responsibility, a 3.7 in business associations and a 4.0 (whoo hoo!) in domestic mediation, bumping me up to a 3.47 overall.

The funny thing was that there was a letter from the Dean of the law school that came with my grades, wherein the Dean congratulated me for graduating "with honors" from the law school. The letter honestly had "with honors" surrounded by quotation marks, as if I'm going to get a subsequent letter that says, "remember when we told you that you were graduating 'with honors'? That was just a hilarious joke that we here at the administration pull from time to time. You really graduated at the bottom of your class."
